Scripture Reading:
Psalm 9:1-11 (ESV) – I will give thanks to the LORD with my
whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. 2 I will be
glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most
High. 3 When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish
before your presence. 4 For you have maintained my just cause;
you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment. 5 You
have rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish; you
have blotted out their name forever and ever. 6 The enemy came
to an end in everlasting ruins; their cities you rooted out; the very
memory of them has perished. 7 But the LORD sits enthroned
forever; he has established his throne for justice, 8 and he judges
the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with
uprightness. 9 The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a
stronghold in times of trouble. 10 And those who know your name
put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those
who seek you. 11 Sing praises to the LORD, who sits enthroned in
Zion! Tell among the peoples his deeds!
1. You need to ALWAYS give to God the correct AMOUNT (vv. 16-
17a)
1 Chronicles 29:16-17a (NLT) – “O LORD our God, even this material we
have gathered to build a Temple to honor your holy name comes from you!
It all belongs to you! 17 I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and
rejoice when you find integrity there. …
2 Corinthians 8:11-12 (NLT) – Now you should finish what you started. Let
the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving.
Give in proportion to what you have. 12 Whatever you give is acceptable if
you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t
have.
Deuteronomy 16:17 (ESV) – Every man shall give as he is able, according
to the blessing of the LORD your God that he has given you.
2. You need to ALWAYS give to God with the correct ATTITUDE (vv.
17b-18)
1 Chronicles 29:17b-18 (NLT) – …. You know I have done all this with good
motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and
joyously. 18 “O LORD, the God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel,
make your people always want to obey you. See to it that their love for you
never changes.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (ESV) – The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will
also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or
under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to
make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at
all times, you may abound in every good work.
Acts 4:34-35 (ESV) – There was not a needy person among them, for as
many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the
proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was
distributed to each as any had need.
