1) Don’t Forget that with Position comes Responsibility. (vv 1-5)
1 Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent
Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and
besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.
a) He forsook his duty as the king. (1 Sam. 8:20)
b) He followed his own lustful desire. (James 1:13-14)
c) He failed to take God’s way of escape. (1 Cor. 10:13)
2) Don’t Forget that you can’t Cover Up Sin. (vv 6-25)
6 Then David sent to Joab, saying, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” So Joab sent Uriah to David.
a) He tried to cover up his sin.
i) A Clean way – vv 6 – 11
ii) A Clever way – vv 12 – 13
iii) A Criminal way – vv 14 – 25
b) Sin is to be Confessed not covered up. (Prov. 28:13; 1 John 1:9; Luke 15:17-19)
3) Don’t Forget that God Sees Everything. (vv 26-27)
27 When the time of mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house and she
became his wife; then she bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was evil in the
sight of the LORD.
