HEBREWS 11:6 (NKJV)
Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church
April 2, 2022
Rev. Ronald Bell Sr.

Hebrews 11:1-2,6 (NASB)
11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the
elders obtained a good testimony.
6 And without faith it is impossible to please
Him, for he who comes to God must believe
that He is and that He
is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

I. You must believe God to please him. (v6)
6 But without faith it is impossible to
please Him, for he who comes to God must
believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of
those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:1 NASB
11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the
elders obtained a good testimony.

Romans 10:17 NKJV
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by
the word of God.

John 20:29 NLT
29 Then Jesus told him, “You believe because
you have seen me. Blessed are those who
believe without seeing me.”

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
7 For we live by faith, not by sight.

MARK 10:27 NASB
27 Looking at them, Jesus *said, “With people it is
impossible, but not with God; for all things are
possible with God.”

Matthew 17:19-20 (NLT)
19 Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately,
“Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?”20 “You
don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell
you the truth, if you had faith even as small as
a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain,
‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move.
Nothing would be impossible.”

II. You must seek God to please him. (v6)
6 But without faith it is impossible to
please Him, for he who comes to God must
believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of
those who diligently seek Him.

Mark 10:47, 52 NRSV
47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he
began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David,
have mercy on me!”
52 Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you
well.” Immediately he regained his sight and
followed him on the way.

Psalm 100:3 NKJV
Know that the LORD, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we
ourselves; We are His people and the sheep
of His pasture.

III. You must believe that pleasing God will
payoff after while.
6 But without faith it is impossible to
please Him, for he who comes to God must believe
that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those
who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:1-5, 7-10 NLT
11 Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is
the evidence of things we cannot see. 2 Through
their faith, the people in days of old earned a good
reputation. 3 By faith we understand that the entire universe
was formed at God’s command, that what we now
see did not come from anything that can be seen.
4 It was by faith that Abel brought a more
acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s
offering gave evidence that he was a righteous
man, and God showed his approval of his gifts.
Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks to us by
his example of faith. 5 It was by faith that Enoch
was taken up to heaven without dying—“he
disappeared, because God took him.”[a] For before
he was taken up, he was known as a person
who pleased God. 7 It was by faith that Noah
built a large boat to save his family from the flood.
He obeyed God, who warned him about things that
had never happened before. By his faith Noah
condemned the rest of the world, and he received
the righteousness that comes by faith. 8 It was by
faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to
leave home and go to another land that God would
give him as his inheritance. He went without
knowing where he was going. 9 And even when he
reached the land God promised him, he lived there
by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in tents.
And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the
same promise. 10 Abraham was confidently looking
forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city
designed and built by God.

sounded too good. What did you miss by not
believing the evidence?

of faith you have ever seen? Why?
5. What does faith help us to comprehend about
the creation of the world? (11:3)
6. What role does faith play in approaching and
pleasing God? (11:6)
7. What has God enabled you to do through
faith?
8. What are some examples from your life of
both trusting God and doubting Him?
9. What is behind the ups and downs in your
spiritual journey?
10. Why do you think God sometimes leaves us
in the dark about His will?
11. Why are Christians able to persevere in
following Christ? (10:23)
12. Some Christians believe that faith always

the role of both blessing and suffering for the
faithful?

Make it Personal

1. What is one small project you could complete
today to encourage a Christian friend to
persevere in his or her faith?
2. Since we are called to live by faith (10:38),
what is one bold step of trust in God you can
