Acts 1:8; Selected Scriptures

Acts 1:3-5 (ESV) – He presented himself alive to
them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to
them during forty days and speaking about the
kingdom of God. 4 And while staying with them he
ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to
wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said,
“you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water,
but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many
days from now.”
1. You need to recognize the POWER behind
the SHARING of the GOSPEL.
Acts 1:8 (ESV) – But you will receive power when
the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be
my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 4:33 (ESV) – And with great power the apostles
were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the
Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.
Acts 10:38 (ESV) – how God anointed Jesus of
Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He
went about doing good and healing all who were
oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
2. You need to ACCEPT you are the PERSON
responsible for SHARING of the GOSPEL.
Acts 1:8 (ESV) – But you will receive power when the
Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the end of the earth.”
Isaiah 43:11-12 (ESV) – I, I am the LORD, and
besides me there is no savior. 12 I declared and saved
and proclaimed, when there was no strange god
among you; and you are my witnesses,” declares the
LORD, “and I am God.
Luke 24:46-48 (ESV) – and said to them, “Thus it is
written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third
day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance and
forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name
to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are
witnesses of these things.”
3. You need to recognize all PEOPLE need the
GOSPEL.
Acts 1:8 (ESV) – But you will receive power when the
Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 13:47 (ESV) – For so the Lord has commanded
us, saying, “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles,
that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’”
Mark 16:15-16 (ESV) – And he said to them, “Go into
all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole
creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be
saved, but whoever does not believe will be
condemned.
Questions to Consider
1. What was the most difficult assignment you
remember getting in school?
2. Who, if anyone, helped you get through and
complete that assignment? (tutor, teacher, friend,
family member)
3. What assignment has The LORD given to each
of us as believers?
4. Who did The Lord provide to help us do what
He’s commanded us to do?
5. How does it make you feel to know you are
responsible to share the gospel with the world?
6. What, if anything, would keep you from sharing
the gospel with someone?
7. After His resurrection Jesus spent some forty
days with His disciples. How do you think they felt
about this time with Him?
8. What Christian do you value spending time
with? Why?
9. How do you know when the Holy Spirit is at work
in your life?
10. What specific means (abilities, opportunities,
relationships) has God given you to carry out the task
of being His witness?
11. What steps can you take to be actively involved
in telling others about Christ?
12. How can you invite the Holy Spirit to guide you
throughout this week?
