Missio Dei – the mission of God or the sending of God.
Revelation 7:9-10 (ESV) – 9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude
that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and
languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white
robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice,
“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
Mission: any activity that the church, the Body of Christ, engages in, through
the love of Christ, for the purpose of making Christ known to every people,
every where, that they might worship Him, forever.
2 Corinthians 5:14-15 (NIV) – 14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are
convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that
those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for
them and was raised again.
I. “Christ’s love FOR YOU compels you to live on mission with God.” (vs. 14)
1 John 4:16 (NIV) – . . . God is love.
John 3:16 (ESV) – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:6-8 (ESV) – 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time
Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous
person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ
died for us.
Ephesians 3:16-19 (ESV) – 16 that according to the riches of his glory he
may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your
inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—
that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to
comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height
and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge,
that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
II. “Christ’s love FOR ALL PEOPLE compels you to live on mission with
God.”
2 Corinthians 5:14 (NIV) – 14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we
are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
1 Timothy 2:4 (ESV) – everyone to be saved and to come to the
knowledge of the truth.
Romans 5:12, 15, 18 (ESV) – 12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world
through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all
men because all sinned—. . . . 15 But the free gift is not like the trespass.
For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the
grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ
abounded for many. . . . 18 Therefore, as one trespass led to
condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to
justification and life for all men.
John 1:29 (ESV)- Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”.
John 3:17 (ESV) – For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn
the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
III. “Christ’s love AT WORK IN you can CHANGE you so you can live on
mission with God.
2 Corinthians 5:15 (ESV) – and he died for all, that those who live might
no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and
was raised.
Luke 9:23 (ESV) – And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let
him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Galatians 5:16 (ESV) – But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not
gratify the desires of the flesh.
Galatians 5:22-23 () – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness,
faithfulness, and self-and not under the control of the flesh.
Galatians 2:19-20 (NIV) – 19 For through the law I died to the law so that
I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer
live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith
in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
2 Corinthians 5:16a (NIV) – So from now on we regard no one from a
worldly point of view.
2 Corinthians 5:16b (NIV) – Though we once regarded Christ in this
way, we do so no longer.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV) – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new
creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NIV) – 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us
to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19
that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting
people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of
reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV) – We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as
though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on
Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
