Scripture Reading:
Romans 12:17-21 (NLT2) – Never pay ba ck evil with more evil. Do things
in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you
can to live in peace with everyone. 19 Dear friends, never take revenge.
Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take
revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD. 20 Instead, “If your enemies
are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In
doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.” 21 Don’t let
evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.
1. You are expected to conduct yourself in a GODLY way, even
when you’ve been MISTREATED by OTHERS.
Romans 12:17 (ESV) – Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do
what is honorable in the sight of all.

2 Corinthians 8:21 (ESV) – for we aim at what is honorable not only in the
Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man.
Proverbs 3:3-4 (ESV) – Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 So you
will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.
A. When you respond to evil properly you testify to the love of
God for all people, even for those who do evil.
B. When you respond to evil properly you display God’s power
to change anyone’s nature.
C. When you respond to evil properly you respond in a way that
GLORIFIES God.
Proverbs 24:29 (ESV) – Do not say, “I will do to him as he has done to me;
I will pay the man back for what he has done.”
1 Thessalonians 5:15 (ESV) – See that no one repays anyone evil for evil,
but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.
1 Peter 3:9-10 (ESV) – Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but
on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a
blessing. 10 For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him
keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit;
