Scripture Reading:
Romans 12:9-21 (NLT2) – Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate
what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection,
and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the
Lord enthusiastically. 12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep
on praying. 13 When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager
to practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that
God will bless them. 15 Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who
weep. 16 Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of
ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! 17 Never pay back evil with more evil.
Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you
can to live in peace with everyone. 19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to
the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them
back,” says the LORD. 20 Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are
thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of
shame on their heads.” 21 Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.
Living A LIFESTYLE Of FAITH, PT. 2
1. Your FAITH is REAL when you can REJOICE in your HOPE in The LORD no
matter what’s going on around you.
Romans 12:12 (NLT2) – Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep
on praying.
Romans 12:12 (ESV) – Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Rejoice –
Hope –
1 Peter 1:3-4 (ESV) – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is
imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
1 Peter 4:12-13 (ESV) – Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes
upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But
rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad
when his glory is revealed.
Romans 5:1-5 (ESV) – Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained
access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of
God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces
endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and
hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts
through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
2. Your FAITH is REAL when you learn how to be PATIENT when you’re in
TROUBLE.
Romans 12:12 (NLT2) – Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep
on praying.
Romans 12:12 (ESV) – Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Patient –
Tribulation –
Ephesians 3:16-19 (ESV) – that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you
to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ
may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length
and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that
you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
3. Your FAITH is REAL when you learn how to PRAY constantly.
Romans 12:12 (NLT2) – Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep
on praying
Romans 12:12 (ESV) – Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Keep on (constant) –
Prayer –
Matthew 26:41 (NLT2) – Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to
temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”
Luke 18:1-8 (NLT2) – One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they
should always pray and never give up. 2 “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said,
“who neither feared God nor cared about people. 3 A widow of that city came to him
repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ 4 The judge
ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about
people, 5 but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice,
because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’” 6 Then the Lord said,
“Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. 7 Even he rendered a just decision in the end.
So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him
day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will grant justice to them
quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have
faith?”
John 16:23-24 (ESV) – In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you,
whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you
have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (ESV) – pray without ceasing,
1 Chronicles 16:11 (ESV) – Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence
continually!
